The Storms

dust-storm-010.jpg

I was driving today and one of the disc jockeys was talking about a conversation that she was having with some friends and one they knew had a lot of less than pleasant things going on in her life. They asked her about it and she gave them updates on things. Then, one of the women said something that is true, storms come before the seasons change. That the storms just have to be weathered and then better things are on the way. It made me think about in Iraq, how you could see a HUGE cloud of dust in the fall. We asked the locals that we were working with what was going on and they said that in 3 days, maybe 4 days, the dust storm would be there and last a couple weeks, but then they got excited and said that when it was gone, the rains would come. Seeing as it is the desert, water is important and the wells and cisterns would be filled.

They were excited to see the sand storm coming, not because they enjoyed it, as it was miserable. One could see only 20 feet or so and the wind was pretty intense, with the dust and sand blowing it stung! My experience was that the dust found its way into even the tiniest crack and everything was coated with dust. I had to start covering my cot and everything I did not want dust covered with plastic and some still got through. But, as miserable as the dust storm was, it was followed by the rains. The rain there was more of a drizzle, but it was nonstop for 2 months, then it got cold, for there at least but the wells and cisterns were filled, the crops could be irrigated when planting season came and they were all happy.

23 And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.
24 And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.
25 And his disciples came to [him], and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.
26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
27 But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!

Matthew 8:23-27

For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones [is] as a storm [against] the wall.

Isaiah 25:4

So, the advise that storms mean changes for the better are coming, one must be prepared to weather the storms and see them through. But, the glorious thing is that we need not weather the storms alone. I have had stormy times in my life. Sometimes I tried to get through them on my own and it was not good. A year or so ago I had some of the most horrendous storms I could have ever imagined and I was feeling a lot of despair, hopelessness and lost. However, in those storms I reached for the shelter of God and sought Jesus to help me through the storm and He did exactly as He promises, He carried me through those times, He gave me comfort and more than that, He gave me forgiveness of my sins. What an amazing God we serve.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.    1 John 1:9

He rescued me in my storm; He calmed the seas; He forgave me my sins and I was changed. I cannot begin to express the depth of thankfulness I have for all the grace and mercy He shows me. None of which I deserve, but He gives them to me anyway.

My Heavenly Father,   I praise You and thank You for not only helping me make it through the storms, but giving me a change in seasons, a change in me thanks to You as I did nothing to earn it or be worthy of what You did for me and I can’t thank You enough for the mercy and grace that allowed me to be forgiven and redeemed. In the name of Jesus I ask that You work in the hearts of loved ones that they may see Your glory and come to know you as their savior as well. I ask that You help us all see that in spite of the storms a new season awaits us and that leaning on You for protection and comfort in those troubling times will not only get us through those times, but make us better for having called out to You in those times.

Amen

I appreciate the time that you all take to ready my blog. I hope you all are blessed today and have a chance to bless someone else as well.

I want to see!!!

looking

It’s a mild winter day here today which is quite welcome after the sub-zero temperatures a few days ago, but as they say here, “If you don’t like the weather just wait, it will change in a day or two.” That ends up being quite true often, in the last 3 days there has been a close to 70 degree difference. But, I digress and now, back on topic: with the milder weather I was out on the porch looking to see if there was any wildlife in the fields: deer, turkey or most anything really. I was thinking that I would like to see some deer or turkey out there. I enjoy seeing them play in the fields.

I want to see. I want to see the weather get better; I want to see the wildlife. BUT, more than those things, I want to see the blessings He has in store for me. I want to see what it is like to be in the presence of Christ. I want to see and experience more of the fruits of the Spirit. I want to see more of the perfect love He has in store for us all. I have seen some of the blessings and what He has for me. I have felt what it is like to be in His presence but I guess I am greedy, because I want to see again.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Galatians 5:22-23

In order to see and experience those things, and all the other blessings Christ has in store for me I have to seek Him.

7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Matthew 7:7-8

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.   Matthew 6:33

I need to seek God first, and, then He will show me the path for me. He will bless me as He has planned to bless me. He will show me the gifts He wishes me to have and experience all He has in store for me.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.        James 1:17

I will seek Him, but I need to seek God for Him and His righteousness, I need to seek His kingdom. For that, I will be rewarded with blessings I cannot fathom. He will show me all I ask and more. I just need to remember that sometimes, patience is necessary. Waiting for Him to do what He plans for me if I prove myself faithful. What an amazing God we serve.

But if we hope for that we see not, [then] do we with patience wait for [it].     Romans 8:25

My Lord, I praise You. Thank You for the blessings I have received, Thank You for the blessings to come. I pray in the name of Jesus that I learn the patience and faith to wait on You and that You continue to help me seek You and to know the heart of Christ. Help me strive to serve You first. I ask You to draw us all closer to You that we may know the blessings of Your forgiveness and mercy. I thank You for the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross and for His defeat over death that made our redemption possible. I pray for those that are suffering, whether financially, physically, emotionally or in any other way and who are yearning to see the blessings You have in store for each of us.

Amen

I hope all have a blessed day and that you are a blessing to someone else as well.

It’s a Beautiful Day

winter

Well, here I sit sipping my coffee and looking out the front window. It’s still dark but the ground is snow covered so I can see a little bit out there. And, I hear the wind blowing given the wind and the snow I know it’s cold and then I foolishly looked at the little weather station and see that it’s 29 degrees F, wind is blowing at 15 mph and the wind chill is 19 degrees F. Cold…..its been colder but its still cold. I don’t like the cold. In fact, I greatly DISLIKE cold weather. Oh, I dress for it and go about my business, but I don’t like it. But, still, it’s a beautiful day.

It’s early, I am not fully awake so I am still tired and I work today, a 10 hour shift and I am not looking forward to it since I know there will be things I have to do and people that I deal with at times can be difficult so I am not at all thrilled about it, particularly when I have worked several days in a row. But, still, it’s a beautiful day.

I know that there will be challenges today. Who doesn’t have some challenges as they go about their days? Some small challenges and others, huge and extremely difficult challenges. But, still it’s a beautiful day.

AND…..after all I say, it would be easy to think and say: It’s a horrible day today. But, no matter the weather, no matter if I am tired, no matter if there will be challenges, no matter what the weather and work throw at me. It’s a beautiful day!

I say that because no matter how cold or difficult my day may be I have all the hope and strength I need by my side. I have a Friend, Master, Savior and Lord who will make my day better. I at times do like many and choose to look at the negative aspects of the upcoming day and various circumstances I face during the day but I am working on my attitude. I am trying, and doing much better than I did without Christ in my life, to adapt Paul’s approach of being happy no matter what, in the good times and the bad times, during feast or famine, learning to have joy no matter what and all that is because of Christ with me.

11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, [therewith] to be content.
12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

Philippians 4:11-12

So, I seek to learn to think that way, to know that I should be content. I know that whether things are good or bad, they could always be worse. I know that as long as I continue to seek Christ, then no matter how bad things may seem at times, it is all good.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33

If I remember to seek God first, then He will give me what I need and more.

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:19

God will take care of me; He will meet my needs. God may not give me all my wants, but He will take care of my needs, physical yes, but more importantly my spiritual needs. God will bless me and no matter how bad things are, I will be content. He gives me a peace and joy that no matter how they try, people, the world, can’t steal that from me.

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

So, I work on learning to trust the Lord and to lean on Jesus, and not myself, for strength, joy and understanding. And, because of that, I say no matter the temperature, the weather or difficulties facing me today. It is a beautiful day!

Lord, I praise Your Holy Name and thank You for making everyday beautiful in its own way and for helping me better see that regardless of the challenges and hardships I face, whether spiritual, physical, financial or in any other way, that YOU make all things better and will see me through those times. You will take care of my needs, You will set me free of the difficulties. Lord, I ask in the name of Jesus that You continue to teach me these important lessons and help me remember what You teach me as I struggle through my days. That keeping You as my focus will make all things better or me and for others and will give You the glory as You help make me a better light to the world. I ask that You draw my loved ones to You and show them all that You are the way, the truth and the light and that without You all days are bad but with You all days are beautiful. Please draw my children, me and all others to You that we may all spend eternity with You.

Amen
