VICTORY!

victory

I was watching a documentary about World War Two the other day and part of it showed some of the celebrations for VJ and VE days. It’s hard for me to fully appreciate the joy they felt. It is hard to understand the hardships endured in the US during the war. So many of the men, and quite a few women, were gone in support of the war effort. Factories were converted from making cars, farm machinery, office equipment and such to produce tanks, airplanes, guns, and other required supplies for the military. Food items were rationed, gas was rationed, they couldn’t buy tires and a lot of other things. One way or another, the entire country was at war, regardless of whether they were in the military or not. And, when the war ended, they were going to return to normal lives. Definitely cause to celebrate.

But, as I saw them celebrating I thought about how I celebrated victories. When I was young if my team won a ball game, when I accomplished something difficult, how victorious I felt at times when I was in Iraq and a roadside bomb blew up and despite damage to vehicle I was unscathed and when bullets whizzed by but I was not hit. I celebrated all those victories. But, the victory that I celebrate, not with cheering and raucous behavior, but with silent thanks and at times tears is the victory that Christ gave me over sin and death. I celebrate my salvation, thanks to His sacrifice.

But thanks [be] to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.    I Corinthians 15:57

Now thanks [be] unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.                                  2 Corinthians 2:14

For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.  Romans 6:14

What an amazing God. He sent His Son to die on the cross; He showed us mercy and grace: He forgave us when we did not deserve it: He gives us triumph over sin and death. Yes, I have had victories in life, some bigger than others, but none will ever compare to the defeat of sin and death that I did nothing to earn, yet was given through Jesus and His sacrifice for me.

Lord, I thank You for the victories in life but the greatest victory was the defeat of sin in my life through Your Son, Christ, who died for my sins and so I could have salvation. I praise Your Holy Name and stand in awe of Your love for us sinners. I pray in the Name of Jesus that I live as You wish me to live that I may enjoy that victory and that I am able to help others know that same victory by showing how merciful You are to us. I pray that my loved ones come to know You and that same victory, that we all are drawn close to You and see and follow Your plan for us.

Amen

Well, it is way cold in the middle of the country and other places at well, for those of you who have to go out in the sub-zero temperatures, be sure to dress appropriately. To those who live or are in warmer climates, well, I am jealous but also hope you enjoy the warmth He provides. I hope all have a chance to be a blessing to someone else today and are also blessed as you go about your days.

Giants all around

david_vs__goliath_by_marianodavidotero-d1na314

I will confess up front that I “stole” the idea for this post from a church bulletin so in advance I will thank the Pastor for the post.

THANKS PASTOR LARRY!

ARE THERE GIANTS IN THE LAND?

Don’t be fearful or afraid to occupy the promises the Lord has given you. Don’t just settle for less when you know the Father has more for you. Self-doubt holds back more believers than any other enemy. Know this: When you know something is from Me and you’re obedient and step out in it, I will keep your back and bless you for overcoming that fear. I say choose blessings or curses. They don’t choose- you do! Focus on My love and provision and you will soon be on that mountain. But Know this, he whom I can trust in small matters, will be leaders of much larger ones. In times such as this, leaders must press in for the goal and not give up, ever. Are you ready to go to higher ground?

And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.  1 Samuel 17:4

And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?   1 Samuel 17:26

David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.  1 Samuel 17:37

And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.  1 Samuel 17:49

Obviously, I skipped some verses, and encourage folks to read the entire chapter, but the message is clear, Israel faced a giant and no one would stand up to him until David came along. No one else had the faith to trust God to help them during the fight. David faces a challenge and realistically, in the human mind, there was no way for him to win but he had faith in God to protect him and give him the victory.

We all face our own giants, they may not be literal giants like Goliath but we face the uncertainty of some things that we feel lead by God to perform, life changes, new jobs, moving across the country, speaking publicly about God, all those things are giants. There are so many possible giants we all deal with and if we have the faith that David had, God will see us victorious and that if we follow Him, He will ensure that we walk in the path He has planned for us.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.  Jeremiah 29:11

Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. Psalms 37:5

And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Matthew 17:20

Lord, I praise your Holy Name and worship You. I thank You for the forgiveness and salvation that was bought for me by the sacrifice, suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus. I pray in Jesus Name that You help me increase my faith and trust in You. That You give me the courage to face the giants in my life because I know that through You when I step out in faith You will be there for me to ensure that I do not fail and that You will carry me through and guide my steps if I follow You and have that faith. I ask that You help others who are facing giants of their own, that they learn to lean on You and take those steps to be victorious in Christ. I pray that draw my family and loved ones to You and help them all to know You.

Amen

Thanks for your time. I hope all will have a great day and are blessed, and that you are able to be a blessing to someone else as well

God, is this a test?

small-group-of-people-taking-test-on-desk

Ever had to deal with various situations and wonder if God is testing you and your faith? Or, if it is possibly the work of the enemy trying to undermine you and your faith. Well, sometimes that is a difficult question to answer. Sometimes, God does test us, when we find situations that are hard to deal with as no matter what a person does, there really doesn’t seem to be a good option. Trying to decide how to proceed is difficult. IF, one thinks with the human mind its difficult, but as I find myself facing some of the challenges of life and try and figure out how to move forward I realize that it is so far beyond my capabilities that I need to continue to do as I have been doing and put it all in God’s hands. He knows what is right, He knows what I should do. I need to give it to Him, let God have control and follow His way. I will, unless I feel Him lead otherwise, continue to pray and let Christ be in control.

3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

Proverbs 3:3-7

Unfortunately, I have had to deal with issues where one person starts making accusations, some directed at me, some at coworkers. Accusing people of things that no one should have had reason to believe but once the comments are made, someone has to do a formal review. To worsen things, I very recently was inadvertently told of things said but the one instigating all the commotion, which indicate a good possibility that the one that has been making the accusations is very likely the one to have done the things of which they accused others and apparently went to significant effort to try to incriminate others instead of themselves. I fail to comprehend the mind set behind such thinking. Then see that person do as they have in the past and try to create turmoil. Bragging about how gullible so many people are and that the same could easily do the same to anyone he decided to do that way. Seeming to derive great joy and satisfaction from the acts and what is left behind when they have finished with their game. While their victims have to deal with the mess that was created.

Knowing all that, it becomes more difficult to do as I should and forgive. It does not come easily to my human self to do so. I sought Christ and prayed, and He gave me the ability to forgive. Yet, I find this person continues to behave as they did and seems, not only fail to show remorse, but instead seems to revel in their actions. It becomes more, and more, difficult to forgive and to not lash back. However, through the grace of Christ I am able to do so.

39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.

Matthew 5:39-40

I have not resisted the evil done me, I have not tried to retaliate. I answered questions, review of records was completed and I have been exonerated but I do not know about the others that were drawn into the circumstances but I have no doubt they will be found innocent as well. Personally, I have forgiven, and turned the other cheek, forgiven again, and again turned the other cheek. I do this because of the grace that God gave me and I have ability to have the love of Christ towards others, even those that have done wrong, and that I have learned to forgive out of that love. I am not claiming spiritual greatness or piety. I am working hard in my struggles to follow Christ. Seeking His guidance in the Bible and in prayer. He gives me the guidance and the ability to restrain my human emotions and not be to others as they have been to me. It is not me, but Christ in me that makes it possible. Oh, I fight against it sometimes, it is a struggle no doubt and I begin to wonder if God is testing me or teaching me or both. Or, is this an attack by the enemy to try to undermine my faith and dedication. I claim victory against the attacks by the enemy if it is him and rebuke him in the name of Jesus. I HAVE VICTORY in JESUS!

43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

Acts 10:43-44

14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

My Heavenly Father, I pray to You and ask that You continue to help me continue to learn the heart and mind of Christ, strengthen my faith, my Christian love for all, even those that so me hate. Please further improve my ability to forgive them. I thank You for the mercies You give me and my redemption through Christ. I ask You work in the hearts and minds of loved ones, and those that show me hate and draw them to You. Teach them Your true love and mercy. Lead them to You.

In the name of Jesus I ask for the ability to pass the test and stand up to the attacks by the enemy and not just remain strong, but grow stronger and more resolute.

AMEN

Thanks for bearing with me. Dealing with some tests in life, home, work, and other places as well. I don’t ask much of readers other than to bless others as able, and, in that veing, I ask you to Please, when you pray, remember me in your prayer for His guidance and strength.
