Veterans Day

veterans day

Veterans Day is a special day for me as I reflect back on my military career this far and remember those with whom I have served. Some still alive that I stay in contact with and spent part of the day today with a very good friend from my time in Iraq. I think about others with whom I served who paid the ultimate price. Others paid a huge price and carry their wounds still. Some visible some not. I think about all those who serve now or have ever served in all the branches of the military: Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard as well as those in the National Guard and Reserves. They are all brothers and sisters in arms. But those who have served in combat are those with whom I have the closest bond.  Of course those I served side by side with through intense fights are the closest of all. Non-combat veterans and Civilians will never understand that bond. There’s also a bond between combat vets from different conflicts.  I have some close friends that served in WW2, Korea, Viet NAM and elsewhere who understand the experiences we all endured. Different in ways but similar in others.

To those I served with in Ramadi and to all combat veterans who put themselves in harm’s way I thank you all with the fullest depth of gratitude I possess. You honor me by including me in your ranks.

I also thank all veterans from all branches and all conflicts who were willing to put themselves in danger and to serve our nation. I thank you.

But. There is one who did not see combat during His life and least not that type of combat. The enemy He fought was a far greater danger to humanity. IS A FAR GREATER DANGER!  And He sacrificed Himself, pure, righteous and holy, for all of us sinners. So, despite not being in an Army, Christ is the ULTIMATE VETERAN!

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13

For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.  Mark 10:45

15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 3:15-18

I have served in the Army and I’ve placed myself in harm’s way and risked my life for others. I do not consider myself a hero; I was doing what I was supposed to do and needed to do. But, I served along side some truly heroic people. But I know serve the TRUEST of heroes, Christ my Savior and Redeemer.

Lord God,  I praise and worship at Your feet, thanking You for so great a love as Christ had to give His life for me and others like me, for all of us sinners. In The name of Jesus I pray that all my brothers and sisters in arms come to know you and that you give them peace and comfort. Heal their wounds, the seen and unseen wounds, the physical and emotional wounds they carry. Bless them for their sacrifices. More than that bless Jesus for the ultimate sacrifice.  Please make me worthy of the price He paid.

Amen

Thank you all for your time. Please, thank a vet, he or she put a lot on the line for us all. Have a blessed day, and be a blessing to someone else as well.

Glorious morning!

jcpsalms118

Most days, I wake up, start my coffee, brush my teeth, spend a few moments in prayer and after talking to God, get ready to write something for the here. Some days I have very distinct thoughts on what to write and other days almost too many ideas and none stand out as important enough to about at the time. Today is one such morning, a lot of thoughts about issues I could write about, but none that stand out as THE issue He wants me to work on for the day. As I consider the various thoughts, struggling to find the one that seems more pressing, I just don’t have that clarity of thought that I need to write about at the moment. Since I can’t come up with one thought otherwise, I realize that some days, I just need to realize that every day with Christ is a Glorious Day! And, just worship and praise Him. Thank Him for the blessings He gives me. Glorify His name for being the forgiving and gracious Savior He is for me and just enjoy His presence.

Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, [and] for thy truth’s sake. Psalms 115:1

Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto thy name.  2 Samuel 22:50

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. Hebrews 13:8

Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. James 5:13

Lord, I praise Your Holy Name and thank You for all that You are, my Savior, my Redeemer, my life giver and for the forgiveness of my sins. I thank You for the grace and mercy that You give. I praise You for being the same, never waivering, never abandoning me, never failing to give me more than I deserve. I pray in the name of Jesus that You continue to help me grow in Christ, that You draw me nearer to You and teach me how to better serve You. I ask that You work in the hearts and minds of loved ones, teach them how to serve You, bring those living in sin to You and help them see the truth of their ways, deliver them from their sins so they may know You as they should. Thank You for all You are for we who, despite being so unworthy, are given all the blessings You promise us.

Amen

I hope all are enjoying His blessings and are sure to bless someone else today.

Did you choose wisely or poorly?

I was watching a movie with my grandson the other day. He loves the Indiana Jones films and we happened to be watching Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. That’s the one where he and his father are searching for the Holy Grail. When they get to the place, the German agent and Indiana Jones are with a knight that was guarding the Grail since the Crusades. He told them to choose and gestured towards an area with many different cups. The German spy looked over the different cups and picked one that was highly polished gold and encrusted with jewels and said, “THIS is the cup of a King.” and drank from the cup and died. The old knight said, “You chose…….poorly.” at which point the German started to age rapidly and in seconds had turned to dust. Indiana Jones looked at the cups, and after a few moments picked up a plain looking cup and said, “This is the cup of a carpenter.”  Then, he drank from it, waited to see if he suffered the same fate as the German. Then, the knight said, “You chose……wisely.” Then, Indiana used the cup to save his dad. The wrong choice brought death, the right choice gave life.

Watching that, it made me think about the times I made choices; how many times I chose poorly; how many times did I choose wisely? Sadly, I realize that I chose poorly more often that I chose wisely. I saw the bright, shiny objects, the “good times,” the pleasing things. Rather, the things I thought would be pleasing only to find that the joy those choices brought was fleeting, lasting but a moment, and then ended up facing the destruction that came with the bad choices. I have chosen wisely at times and saw the truth, that things that at first don’t offer the immediate rewards and “satisfaction” were in fact the things that offered long term rewards. But, out of all the choices, the best one I made was when I was dealing with the consequences of the bad choices was when I chose life everlasting. I made the decision to, rather than run from God and seek the things that in the human mind seem to be the beautiful things, turn to God, I asked Christ to provide the forgiveness I needed and He did so. I realized that I finally, truly chose wisely. I chose to seek God, to serve Him and am living a better, more rewarding life that also carries a promise of eternity in Heaven with Jesus.

Yes, I finally chose wisely, thankfully He helped me see the truth and brought me to the place that I did make the right decision and I praise God that He is so merciful and graceful and rewards me daily for that choice.

I would invite anyone reading to take a moment and consider your choices in the past and ask yourselves if you had chosen wisely or poorly. If you chose wisely, then great however if you find yourself questioning your wisdom in the choices, wondering if or knowing that you had chosen poorly, seek Him and His wisdom and guidance. If you realize that you made bad decisions then seen Him for help on how to make them right. Find what you need to do to correct your path to bring you to the place He wants you to be in life.

And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.   Joshua 24:15

19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, [that] I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:

20 That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, [and] that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he [is] thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

Deuteronomy 30:19-20

More importantly, for those facing choices, and we all do everyday, seek Him for the knowledge on how to make the right choice. Those who do  it know Him I tell you that the choice you have before you is simple, choose Christ and life eternal or choose that which may seem an option for something shiny, bright and encrusted with what seems to be riches but which brings sorrow and leads to eternity in Hell. If you choose wisely, confess you have sinned and are lost then ask God to forgive you for those sins. He will, Christ paid the price with His blood so you can have the forgiveness and redemption that is waiting.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.   I John 1:9

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  Romans 10:9

Lord,  I praise Your Holy name and thank You for showing me the right choice. That despite all the wrong choices I have made You still cared enough to send You Son Jesus to suffer for those sins and pay the price for me. I worship You for your mercy and grace. I ask in the name of Jesus that You speak to those struggling with bad decisions or who are at a point of trying to make a decision that you help them make the right choice. Help them choose wisely. I ask that You draw my loved ones to You and show them the right paths and help them accept a You as their Savior.

Amen

thank you once again to those who take the time to read my ramblings. I hope all have a blessed day and please try to be a blessing to at least one person today.

No one can steal my JOY!

joy.jpg

I am getting ready to start my work day. So many times folks I work with, or deal with, daily seem to live to steal joy from others. Why they are bitter is not something I always (in fact rarely) know. Why they would rather try to take the joy from others instead of try to undermine others is usually a mystery. I guess some just love to hate. But, not gonna let those folks get me down. I am going to rejoice in the Lord and savor the day.

Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. Philippians 4:4

Such a short, but wonderful verse and message.

Lord, Thank You for the day, I praise Your majesty, grace and mercy. I will rejoice in my Lord and Savior and keep the joy that You give me, regardless of what may come.

I ask you to help me not take the joy from others, but that I help them find their own.

Amen.
