Fast is slow. Slow is Smooth, Smooth is fast, so……slow is FAST!

A few years ago my son in law was finishing the basement in their house. I helped him hang sheet rock and then we started taping and applying the compound to the joints to make the wall smooth where pieces of sheet rock were against one another. If you aren’t familiar with how sheet rock is made, the edges are beveled to allow for the compound to be applied and you apply the tape and compound to make it smooth. I showed him a few, how to apply thin coats of compound and then after it had dried, sand the joint smooth and put another coat on, and told him it would likely take 3 or 4 coats. They lived about 2 hours away and it was a couple weeks before we were back at their house and I saw the work he had done. Well, it appeared like he had gotten in a hurry, applied too thick of a coat and didn’t sand it because he figured as long as he got the joints mostly smooth it was no big deal. Except, if you apply the compound too thickly when it dries, it cracks and that’s what had happened. He complained about how it looked, so we had to then do a lot of sanding of the joints to make them ready for another coat or two of compound. Doing it the way he did resulted in a much longer process and more work to get to the job done. He hurried too much and because of that got sloppy, didn’t do it well and it ended up taking longer and required more work.

In the military one hears a lot of expressions and some seem counterintuitive, they just seem to go against common sense. One such expression is “fast is slow” usually followed by another saying, “slow is smooth, smooth is fast, so slow is fast.” OKAY, now WHAT doe that mean? Well, often when one tries to hurry doing something, they don’t do it well because they get sloppy, doing it to get it done but not doing a good job. Not going slowly and smoothly, creating more work, more hardships and not getting the results one wanted unless they take far more time to correct the mess they created trying to rush.

I was reminded of this when I overslept this morning and tried to hurry to get ready so I wouldn’t be too late. WELL………I spilled water while making coffee, knocked stuff over while carrying things out to the pick up and a few other ways managed to make more work for myself had I just taken my time and gone a little slower. Fast is slow, because I had to clean up the water I spilled straighten up the stuff I knocked over, and other ways undid the other messes I made. SO…..had I taken time to do things correctly, going just a little slower I would have been able to do things smoothly….and therefore faster than I ended up getting things done.

Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.   Proverbs 19:2

The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.  Proverbs 21:5

I found a couple little articles that also mentioned that if one fails to test a spirit to see if it is true because they hurry too much, the create problems or themselves and can easily fall into a trap that Satan has laid for them.

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.  1 John 4:1

There are also a lot of scriptures about being patient and waiting as I mentioned in a post a few days ago. So we see that scripture tells us to not be too hasty with things, don’t let things move or happen too quickly, that we should wait on the Lord and be patient. In real life, little lessons about things being done in haste, without taking time to do things properly one ends up with a mess that once done cleaning up after rushing and being sloppy one loses time. And, as the military adage goes: Fast is slow but slow is smooth, smooth is fast, so slow is fast. Obviously, I put more value in the scripture than in the other things, but they do serve as real life examples of what we need to remember in our Christian walks.

Lord, I praise the Lord of lords and marvel at your majesty. I thank You for all the blessings and for my redemption and forgiveness that you give me.  I ask in the name of Jesus that you continue to help me grow in Christ. I ask that you use me and this blog to help others and that if anyone else feels like the rushed and find that in their haste they created more problems that You help them see how to stop, slow down and do things right. That they know how to clean up the messes in their lives and their walk with You so they can proceed slowly, smoothly and thereby more quickly realize the full extent of the blessings that You have for them. Teach us all to wait patiently and not hurry; to test spirits first; to see what is of God and what is not. Draw us all closer Lord.

Amen

I hope all have a blessed day and a chance to be a blessing to others.

Fear for a friend

I was praying this morning, mostly just thanking God for all He has done for me. Asking Him for continued guidance. And, just enjoying being in His presence. When, I felt a burden and fear for a friend’s well being, not physical well being, I do not think the friend is in physical danger, but concern for their emotional and spiritual well being. I haven’t heard from them in months, but I had this overwhelming feeling they are or will be going through a very difficult time emotionally and spiritually. Sometimes, I get that sort of feeling for one person or another. I may or may not speak to them about it,  but if I feel that, I pray for whomever the Lord lays on my heart. So, I pray for the friend. If it happens to be someone reading this and you need someone to visit with about things, send me a message. At least spend time in prayer, seek God’s wisdom, hope and help.

Lord, I praise Your holy Name and worship You for all that You are for us. I ask in Jesus name that my friend feel You in their life and that they know that You are there for them. Protect them from whatever emotional or spiritual danger they face, show them Your perfect will for them and guide them back to the path You want for them. I pray in Jesus name that You provide the protection for us all from physical, spiritual and emotional problems. That You guide us in Your will and way and lead us to the perfect plan You have for us and show us how to be perceptive to Your wishes in our lives.

Amen

Thanks for the visit. I will continue to pray for my friend and for others. I hope that God blesses all and shows us what He needs of us that He may bless as all.

Kicking the skunk

I often wonder how many others have to deal with various issues I have encountered. I seriously doubt that I am that different and there must be others who experience similar life circumstances, deal with similar people that can be difficult to tolerate at times, people that seem to live to antagonize others. We always have to deal with multiple people throughout our days some are great with which to interact and others, to put it kindly, with whom the interactions are very difficult. They seem to just look for any and all opportunities to try and antagonize others or many others. Seeming to me that they are so unhappy with themselves that they can only find joy by trying to spread the discontent they feel. Sometimes masking their antagonism with pretense of compliments or concern. Backhanded complements that are actually criticisms. Other times pretending to be concerned so they tell you something but are actually trying to cause you more problems, worries or stress, “warning you” about something that may be going to happen because of something they heard or saw, but waiting hours, days or weeks before telling you. More like they were trying to find out if there was a problem they thought might happen so they could enjoy someone else’s misery. It seems they will do anything they can do to try to cause you and others problems, but pretend that they mean well when they said or did whatever it was that was intended as a negative, despite acting concerned.

Well, I have some that seem to enjoy doing things like those I mentioned. I have learned to ignore them and pray for them. But, sometimes, they are not happy if you ignore them and will look for the chance to try to try, to use a phrase I know, “kick the skunk.” Just looking for a chance to create as much stink as possible. But, those who try to kick the skunk and run, usually have more “stink” from their actions than those they hoped would get “sprayed.”

Amazing to me that there are people who only find any joy in their life by trying to create drama in others’ lives or to try challenge your salvation or make you question it, trying to cause enough problems to try to make you stumble. Just waiting to have the chance to point and say “I told you he was lying and isn’t really saved.”  Well, unfortunately for them, I have a joy they cannot steal. I have God and He will protect me from these feeble attempts to cause me problems. He is my Rock and my Salvation. My fortress in times of attack.  Christ uses these things to help make my faith stronger.

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,
20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

Ephesians 6:10-20

1 And David spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul:
2 And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;
3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.
4 I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

2 Samuel 22:1-4

Sadly, there are a lot of people out there who are only content to spread discontent, allowing themselves to be used by the enemy to try to cause others to stumble. I praise God that He provides me the faith, strength, love and mercy to not only stand up to such attacks, but to grow stronger in Christ with each of the attacks.

Lord, I praise Your Holy Name and worship You. I thank You for the challenges and trials that You use to strengthen my faith and my relationship with Christ. I pray for those who seek to cause problems for others, that they learn of You and seek You rather than allow Satan to try to use them to try to destroy others or cause them problems. I ask in Jesus Name that You continue to work in me and use me to draw others to You. Please work in the lives of loved ones to bring them to You so they will know Your true will and way in their lives so they may follow You and live the life You plan for each one of us.

Amen

I appreciate you taking your time to read my post today. I hope that something was a blessing to someone, so they learn better how to deal with difficult people or circumstances. I hope all have a blessed day and find a way to bless at least one other person.
