Is that what you want to be doing when Jesus comes?

I have heard this said in a variety of different ways since I was a child. Maybe phrased as: Would you want to meet Jesus doing that? How would you feel if Jesus saw you doing that? If Jesus came now would you be proud of how you are living? Or, any number of similar phrases uttered by my mother, grandmother and others. There was a time I would have not been proud of my life, of my actions and I would have been ashamed if Jesus had seen me that way. I am better now but sometimes, I slip a little, I get annoyed and irritated, I don’t always have as gentle of a heart and am not as quick to turn the other cheek as He wants, but I am working on that with His help. I want to be ready when He returns.

34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and [so] that day come upon you unawares.
35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.
36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.         Luke 21:34-36

I posted about signs of His coming. I didn’t list all the signs but there are a lot of them in the scripture. While there are signs that the time is coming we don’t know exactly when He will come.  I always think about when there is talk of the end of the world, predictions made by people who interpret various hieroglyphs, the Mayan calendar and other ancient writings and then give specific dates for whatever apocalypse they say will cause the end of the world then suddenly, the date comes and no end of the world. Those are the ones that remind me that we will not know the time He is coming until He arrives. So we must always be ready for His return.

But of that day and hour knoweth no [man], no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.  Matthew 24:36

42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

Matthew 24:42-44

But of that day and [that] hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.  Mark 13:32

No, we don’t know when He is coming, but when He comes what a glorious time for those who believe in Him and are saved. I fear for the unsaved but praise Him for those who will not be on Earth for the tribulations that will follow.

15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.                    1 Thessalonians 4:15-17

Lord,  Praise You and Your Holy Name. I thank You for my salvation. What a magnificent gift that is that You gave me. God, I both look forward to, and fear, the day that Christ returns. I look forward to rejoicing in Heaven with Jesus and worshipping at Your throne. But, I fear for those who continue in sin and who are not redeemed. I pray in the name of Jesus that You use me to help show others Your love and mercy that they may know the forgiveness and grace that await them if they confess Christ as Your son and ask for forgiveness of their sins. I pray that You help all know You and that You draw all my loved ones to You that they not be left behind when Christ returns.

Amen

Well, I hope something I said blesses someone, I would encourage all to take time and read about the signs of His return and what will occur when He does come. If you are not where you think you should be when He returns, then talk to God and get to where you feel Him lead you. Have a blessed day and try to be a blessing to someone else.

Remade

I heard a song on the radio this morning that I had not heard before, or like many other times, I heard it, but didn’t. You know, music in the background that is there, but you are not REALLY paying attention to it. Sometimes I have the radio on and am thinking about this or that so what I hear doesn’t really sink in. Regardless, the song: “You are more.” As I thought about the lyrics it occurred to me that this song really sums up much of what we all go through and what Christ did, and does, do for us. Oh, the circumstances are different for each individual, some sins in human minds are far worse than others, but to God, all sin is sin and we are all sinners because we all make mistakes. But, through Jesus we really are more than our sins, more than our past. We, who seek forgiveness of Him are made new. Not cleaned up and polished, our dings and dents are not straightened, the broken pieces are not glued, we are made NEW!

Here is the chorus:

You are more than the choices that you’ve made
You are more than the sum of your past mistakes
You are more than the problems you create
You’ve been remade

Therefore if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17

Yes, there is far more to the Bible and to salvation than this simple concept, but the fact is that without this part nothing else would be possible. But, it all rests on the fact that he takes what we have broken and He does not simply repair it, He makes it into a new and perfect thing. Sort of like if you have an accident and the insurance repairs the damage. The car is no longer dented but it is still the same car. He doesn’t simply straighten out a few dents and replace a few parts. He makes one brand new.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

It always sort of bothers me when one professes to be a Christian, yet they see someone else who has been saved, but they continue to remind them of their sins. The supposed Christian still wants to judge and criticize and not give the newly saved person what Christ bought for them, salvation, redemption and forgiveness. But, if one truly is saved, there is a change in them, I know this personally. I have a past, but that is no longer who I am and my mind, actions and well, the very essence of my being is totally different. THAT is the power of the forgiveness and salvation we have available. If one Christian, lets call him Sam, continues to remind someone, lets call him George, who has been saved of their past, their failures and doesn’t accept them as a new creature, then Sam is still in sin and needs prayer because by constantly doing what he is, he essentially denies Christ. Whether Sam professes Christianity or not, if he does anything that does not build up George, he is trying to damage George and not help him. Now if George returns to his old ways, that would be a different situation, but if George has truly been saved and no longer is sinning, then reminding him of his past is only trying to tear him down. I guarantee you that is not what Christ wants us to do for others.

13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but [this] one thing [I do], forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14

Well, I know that judging is a human thing, I suspect we have all been a little too critical and judgmental of others. I wish it weren’t so, but in the past, I have been critical of other Christians. One way that God has changed me is that He removed that from me. Instead of seeing the fault, I try to see the good changes and not focus or point out the past. I probably need to work on that more but Jesus has made a tremendous difference in that area as well as others.

Lord,

I worship Your Holy Name and praise You. I thank You for making me a new creature with the forgiveness I have been given through the sacrifice Jesus Christ made on the cross when He paid the price for the sins of my past and removed them from me and made me a new creature. I pray in the name of Jesus that You continue to refine me into the servant that You want me to be for Your glory. I pray that You remind me that others who have been saved, like me, are not who they once were but are new creatures. Remind us all that Your salvation and redemption that You give us is not conditional or partial. Please draw us all closer to You that we may all be saved and only serve You.

Amen

Thanks for coming by my blog. I hope something that goes through my mind is helpful and a blessing to someone. Please, try to be a blessing to someone else today too.

Sometimes all you can do is pray. (BUT…THAT is a lot!)

praying.png

I think we all know people that go through hard times. I deal with a lot of people: family, friends, patients and others. It seems I have always been one that people feel comfortable talking to about a lot of things that they wouldn’t talk to a lot of people about. People I barely know would tell me a lot of personal things. Usually it seemed they were sort of either just needing to talk to allow them to think through things themselves but other times they were looking for advice. I am not really fond of giving advice because if it doesn’t work as well as they like, I end up being blamed and even if not blamed, I don’t like thinking I did something that caused them hardships of some sort. But, as it goes, I do hear things that sometimes I don’t really have a way to help them….well, other than pray for them. And, as I see it, that is way better than giving advice or helping other ways. Prayer is a powerful thing. Oh, I will share some scripture if I can, but sometimes, whether I tell them or not, I pray for them. I always hope they will pray for themselves too.

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.  Philippians 4:6

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.  Romans 8:26

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.  Matthew 6:6

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.  Hebrews 4:16

Pray without ceasing.  1 Thessalonians 5:17

There are so many verses that talk about praying. Whether for financial, physical, emotional or any other hardship, prayer and earnestly seeking God will help. God will help.

Lord, I worship You and thank You that we can come to You in good times and bad. Praising You in good times and thanking You for the blessings, grace and mercy You give us. I praise You for being a God that helps in time of need also. Lord, I know there are so many people out there that are hurting: physically, emotionally, financially and in ways I cannot even imagine. But, You know their needs before they even speak of them. I know many people with so many different things that need Your hand in their lives. I know there are far more needs than I know about too. I pray in the name of Jesus that You reach those people and help them through the hard times they face. That You give them the peace of mind in knowing that You will help them. Help them find the strength they need to face the hardships and the strength and courage as You lead them through their hard times, showing them the way but not only the way out of the difficult times and situations but the way to salvation and the true richness of redemption and the blessings that are in store for them if they follow You and take the steps that You show them to take. Show them all the way to forgiveness, through the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross and paid for with His blood. Draw us all to You as You help us through life. Teach us how to pray as we should and how to be the people that You want us to be for Your Glory.

Amen

Well, I thank everyone who visits and I hope that something I say blesses you. Please, try to be a blessing to someone else as well.

Hectic Schedule

calendar busy

I was looking at my schedule for the next couple months and to say the least it is way more confusing than normal. I work a sort of rotating schedule at work and that is part of the confusion. Then adding Drill dates and such from Guard as well as things like appointments with the dentist and all the other things one has to do tend with and it gets pretty hectic and, almost overwhelming. I gotta say, I am not sure HOW I get myself obligated like I do and end up having to go 5 directions at once.

For example, in the next few weeks starting the day after Christmas I work 2, off 3, work 1, off 3, work 1, off 6 but most of those 6 are drill days so not off but will at least have shorter days (I hope) than regular work, work 3, off 2, work 2, off 2……and that’s not as bad as it gets, an extra drill weekend the last weekend of January…. then on orders for a few days in February and, well. You get the picture. Thankfully, I have the schedules in my phone. I just wish I would remember to check it more often because making plans is difficult to say the least and sometimes, I forget to check before I make plans then I am at a spot where I am supposed to be two, maybe three, places at the same time.

Sometimes, I get in a rush, manage to get going and forget something, my coffee, my billfold, who knows what but I do manage to always remember to take a few minutes to talk to God. For those who are not regular about praying, a few minutes to talk with God during a crazy and hectic day can make all the difference in the world. Besides, with all He has to do, He still makes sure to take care of me so much better than I deserve that I would be pretty ungrateful not to say thank You Lord for all His blessings to me. And, I always feel a lot better after praying a while.

Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.   Psalms 150:2

Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.            Psalms 150:6

Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.      James 5:13

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.  1 Thessalonians 5:18

By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of [our] lips giving thanks to his name.  Hebrews 13:15

There are a lot more verses about prayer, praising, being thankful but after looking at a lot, NONE say anything about not taking time to pray when you are busy or having a hectic life. To be perfectly honest, the more hectic and chaotic things get for me, well, that is when I need Him even more.

So, busy schedule due to Christmas and other holidays, at work, home, juggling multiple things at once or not….God deserves your praises and you deserve the benefit of praying.

Lord, I thank You for the reminder that no matter how busy I think I am, I should never think I am too busy to pray and talk to You; ask You for guidance and help with my life and Christian walk. I praise You for all You are and do. I pray in the name of Jesus that I do better seeking You, spending more time in the scripture and in prayer and if I find myself busy, that I remember to at least say thanks for the blessings and to ask Your hand on my life and Your guidance. I pray that loved ones and others remember to look to You and the time to seek You as well.

Amen

I hope all have a wonderful day and that you are blessed today. Please, remember to be a blessing to someone else as well.

Never happy, always angry.

Have you ever had to deal with someone that for no good reason is just never happy. Oh, they pretend to be happy but if you look it’s a facade and you can tell there is no true joy. Even worse than that, they are obviously angry and it’s easy to see since they are continuously not only quick to complain about almost everyone and everything if not absolutely everyone and everything. But not only are they trying to find any excuse to complain about things they almost immediately go from complaining about others but they attack them. Spreading half truths, outright lies and saying vile things about them. And, when they are doing all that, creating chaos and drama that they seem to thrive. Only being happy themselves when they are hurting others and causing them to be unhappy. Doing all they can to try to harass others and spread misery.

11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

James 4:11-12

When one reviews the psychiatry and psychology literature it becomes obvious that those who behave that way are actually trying to project the feelings they have about themselves onto others. They feel badly about themselves and want to make others feel badly too, so that they feel “normal” because they think “if everyone else is miserable like me, I am mostly normal, and if I was the cause of the misery, then I have some power in life over others.” The individuals are filled with self hate, self loathing, low self esteem and the only way they can feel a sense of self worth is through trying to hurt others and make them feel badly. It is truly sad that one has that mindset, but there are a lot of people out there that are exactly that way. Finding joy in others sorrow and feeling sad if they realize others have any joy. They feel no remorse when they mistreat others, instead feeling or at least acting like, it is their personal right to do such.

How does one help someone like that? Can they be helped? Sadly, most are narcissistic to one extent or another and they justify their actions as their right that supersedes the rights of others. The literally have no regard for others but can do a great job pretending to be concerned and can at times be quite charming when they feel they have something to gain from someone and they believe that behavior will help them so at times, will say nice things to make another feel good about themselves, but that is usually short lived and once they decide another person is not beneficial to them, they will attack, and attack ruthlessly. Which takes us back to the way that some will complain and attack others. But, the bottom line for those people is that they hate themselves, try to use others to validate themselves and in other ways use people to try to help their own self esteem.

12 But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we.

13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

2 Corinthians 11:12-15

If having some sort of “crisis” where they express doubts and concerns to people, ask for help, ask what is wrong, etc, and the person tries to help them by telling them what they have observed, then they attack that person as well.

He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.  Proverbs 15:32

Sadly, these people can be subtle how they do things, sometimes, not so subtle, but when that pattern of behavior is observed, be cautious and realize that you can pray for them, but that they often will deny they are wrong so feel they have no reason to talk to God about anything. But, one continues to pray with the hope that God works in that person’s life.

Lord, I praise Your name and worship you for Your majesty. Thank You for the blessings and life lessons that helps me to improve my walk with You and makes my life better. I pray in the name of Jesus that You continue to help me see and understand others better and how to deal with those that behave in negative manner so I can avoid getting trapped in difficult circumstances or caught up in the drama that some try to create. I ask that You reach those who are that way and show them Your truth and work in their hearts that the do right by You and others. I pray that You draw my loved ones to You and show them how to receive the forgiveness and mercy that You offer.

Amen.

I appreciate those who take the time to visit my blog and read my posts. I hope all are having a blessed Christmas season and are able to be a blessing to others as well.

It’s flu season. Did you get your Vaccination?

flu.jpg

It is now flu season and, given my profession, I have to deal with vaccination concerns as well as those who contract influenza. Please bear with me as I try to wear two hats today. I promise it will in one manner or another tie in for what I think are valuable life lessons. I am at least hopeful that I am able to do so adequately.

fluvax

As I said, it’s flu season and while only seeing a limited amount of cases now, that number will rise of that I have no doubt. And despite what some hear or read a few myths need to be dispelled: the influenza vaccine DOES NOT and CANNOT cause the flu, PERIOD END OF STORY! The flu shots are made with a killed virus that is incapable of causing influenza. Oh some may get some mild body aches, joint pain or headache and perhaps a slight increase in body temperature or as some call it a low grade fever (FYI medically there is no such thing as a low grade fever, a fever is a fever and if you temperature is not 100.4f or above you DO NOT HAVE A FEVER. Next: influenza vaccine has absolutely NOT been shown to cause autism in children (not have any other vaccines) the one publication that indicated that has been proven to have been totally fabricated and very loosely based on highly inaccurate, misinterpreted information. That was compounded by some uneducated celebrities and others jumping on that bad information and spreading the inaccurate information and creating situations where we are now seeing increases of measles, mumps, pertussis and s host of other diseases that only a few years ago were extremely rare. There are individuals that should not get vaccinations but those are a small number. Some will say that they know someone who’s friend’s, neighbor’s, third cousin’s mailman said had a severe reaction to a vaccination. Unfortunately, there are very rare but serious reactions to vaccinations and people have died from those adverse reactions but if one looks at the real numbers the less than 1 in 100,000 severe reactions to vaccines compared to the known complications of any of the diseases we vaccinate for is extremely, extremely small. Simply stated tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands are alive today because they avoiding contracting certain diseases by getting vaccinated. I hate that anyone die but if looking at the big picture far, far more lives are saved than are lost.

There are years where the flu that is present is not exactly the version for which one was vaccinated and, yes, there are time when someone still gets influenza however there is benefit in the form of cross immunity from the strains in the vaccine that one gets decreased severity of symptoms and usually recover much quicker than an unvaccinated person. So that even if the flu isn’t prevented for all at least it’s not as bad as it could be for those who get vaccinated.

Yet another issue about flu, there is no “stomach flu” and flu like symptoms is not nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Flu or flu like symptoms are: fevers, chills, runny nose, cough, body aches and if severe difficulty breathing and possibly wheezing. The same symptoms as a common cold and most people with flu only need the same medicines we use for colds as we treat the symptoms and try to help people be more comfortable as their body fights the flu.

Final comment about flu is that the flu medicine (tamiflu) provides minimal benefit and will slightly decrease severity of flu symptoms and decrease duration of symptoms by 1 or 2 days and that only occurs if it is started within 48 hours of symptom onset preferably before 24  hours has elapsed since symptoms started. I do not use or recommend that it be prescribed except in limited circumstances. The benefit is minimal and the adverse (bad side effects) reactions are likely enough and severe enough that in my mind “the juice ain’t worth the squeeze” in regards to taking it.

Well, obviously I believe in vaccinating against diseases. One can decrease the risks of contracting influenza by washing their hands frequently, using hand sanitizer, avoiding close contact with those who are sick and through good nutrition which helps keep immune systems strong. Massive doses of vitamin C or other vitamins does not cure or prevent the flu or colds. And can cause more problems than they may help. The only definite effect of taking mega doses of vitamins is one has expensive urine since the majority of vitamins are water soluble so are excreted by the kidneys if one takes more than the body needs.

SO…..in order to minimize the risk to get the flu this year one needs to get good nutrition, plenty of rest, practice good hand washing/hygiene and get a flu vaccination. Even then, one cannot be absolutely guaranteed to not get influenza. BUT, doing those things make it much, much, much less likely (YES, I used 3 muches for emphasis!)

Okay, great you’re thinking by now. You are saying to get vaccinated but you can’t guarantee we won’t get sick. So what good is it?  And. FINE, we get what you are saying about the flu but what does this have to do with a Christian walk? And, here is where I try to be clever and make analogies. I hope that what makes sense to me actually makes sense to others as well. No one thing will guarantee us to be able to stay on the right path, serve Christ as He wishes we do so and help us avoid sin. BUT, by doing all of those things we can significantly decrease the likelihood that we will have difficulty in our Christian lives and what tools do we have to help us in that process?

The first step is to wash ourselves, rather to ask God to wash us of our sins by confessing to him that we are sinners and asking for His forgiveness.

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.  1 John 1:7

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  1 John 1:9

Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.                         2 Corinthians 7:1

After we are clean we need to maintain nutrition by studying the scripture, learning what God has in the Bible to teach us how to live. He does this with straightforward instructions, parables, example (both of how to live and how not to live) and explaining to us how we can maintain the forgiveness and redemption He has given us and to teach us how to life for His benefit and glory.

16 All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.     2 Timothy 3:16-17

We can also maintain a balanced spiritual diet by spending time in prayer, talking to God, telling Him our issues and problems, our needs, and seeking His wisdom and guidance.

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. Philippians 4:6

Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.  Matthew 6:6

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,
20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

Ephesians 6:16-20

More important than that, since He already knows those things anyway and even though He knows, He does want us to tell Him those things, is that we praise and worship Him.

1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.
2 Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.
3 Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.
4 Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.
5 Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.
6 Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.

Psalms 150:1-6

The other part of the of maintaining our spiritual health, the vaccination if you will, is making sure to spend time with other Christians in praise and worship and fellowshipping with our Christian brothers and sisters by going to church.

Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some [is]; but exhorting [one another]: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Hebrews 10:25

For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.  Matthew 18:20

And, not only congregating with other Christians for the praise and worship, but to hear His word. I know that people learn through a variety of methods: reading about something, seeing something, doing things and hearing about something. How we learn about Christian life is the same, and if we try to learn the same material using more than one of these methods, or even better, ALL of these methods, the lessons are reinforced and better remembered. So, HEARING is a critical part as well, time sitting in the church pew LISTENING to the pastor, LISTENING to the message He is teaching from the scripture as well as listening to the messages in the songs.

So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.   Romans 10:17

SO, just as in needing to do multiple things to help decrease and hopefully avoid catching influenza we need to do multiple things to help avoid “catching sin” rather falling back into sin and thereby falling away from God. It isn’t hard to maintain your Christian life, but doing one or some of these things, while helpful, does not give you all that you need as a Christian. There are a lot of Christians that think by praying, maybe reading the Bible once in a while, they will be able to be strong and spiritually healthy Christian. I know, because I was that way. Some believe all they need to do is go to church on Sundays and then live the rest of the week in whatever manner suit them. Still others believe that once saved, always saved and all they have to do is confess their sins and ask Christ to forgive them. It doesn’t work that way. I, you, WE ALL, fail God daily and sin in some way. Maybe not big sins, but I doubt there is a person alive that doesn’t slip at least a little every day. None of these things by themselves will keep us spiritually strong; doing one or two is not enough, sometimes doing all the things He tells us to do is barely enough and it is only by being diligent in doing all of them do we best insure that we do not get “spiritually sick” and that we instead are spiritually healthy.

Lord, I worship You and I praise the name of Jesus who You sent to die and suffer so that I and all of us could live. I thank You for the lessons and the ways You help me see how daily life and spiritual life have parallels so I can better understand what You expect of me and how I can be a better servant for You. I pray You help me keep my immunity intact, with spiritual washing, getting all the spiritual nutrition I need and getting spiritually vaccinated. I ask in the name of Jesus that You continue to work with me and helping me to grow in Christ. I pray that You work in the hearts and minds of loved ones also and draw us all closer to You. Help us all see Your truths for us and how to better resist the temptations of life so we do not become spiritually sick and lost. I pray for several different friends who have issues with which they are dealing and that You help them through the troubled times. Give them the comfort they each need and show them Your path for their lives, how they can correct what they can correct and how to move forward with their lives in the way You have for each.

Amen.

It’s Fall

NH-Cleveland-fall-foliage.jpg

It’s fall, well, it was around here, cool at night, not too warm during days, but too bad. Comfortable for sure. Its time for the fall festivals, pumpkin patches and such, but it is also starting to become deer hunting season. I love to go deer hunting, but, I don’t get too worked up if I don’t get one. Some days, I just lean back against a tree and snooze. Other days, I sort of watch, but more than anything I like going out to enjoy the change of the seasons, watch all the animals, and relax. But, the most important thing for me is that has always been the best place for me to talk with God. I get away from all the annoyances and irritations or daily life and unwind, sort my thoughts and figure out things, in a way, but more importantly I can get time to just pray and talk with God. Tell Him what is on my mind, what is bothering my, what I think  is going well and I want to thank Him for and anything else I have on my mind. Now, He already knows all those things, but my taking things to Him in prayer, the thanks, the worries, all those things that He knows already, but it is important that when I talk to Him about them that I acknowledge that I feel blessed and have cause to thank Him or feel worried and need help.

Sometimes He gives me answers and other times more to think about. He also helps me find peace. Get away somewhere that it’s just me and Him. No other people, no cars, no cares at all for a little while. It gives me time to actually reflect on things and consider things to consider as I try to understand where He is leading me. I guess the woods and fields are sort of my prayer closet. It’s my place of safety and sanctuary spiritually.

And David abode in the wilderness in strong holds, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God delivered him not into his hand.  1 Samuel 23:14

The voice of the LORD shaketh the wilderness; the LORD shaketh the wilderness pof Kadesh.   Psalms 28:9

1 (A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.) O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
2 To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.
3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.
4 Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.
5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:
6 When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.
7 Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.
8 My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.
9 But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.
10 They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes.
11 But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.

PSALMS 63:1-11

6 O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.

7 For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice,

Psalms 95:6-7

I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.   John 10:9

I enjoy the time in the fields, woods, meadows and pastures. It is a perfect time to reflect, pray, have a heart to heart with God. He gives me guidance, speaks to my heart, shows me part of the plan He has for me. I thank Christ for the sacrifice He made that I may have my salvation. I marvel at all He has created and it is amazing indeed to think that He did so with ease. We serve an amazing God.

Of course, if thinking about spending time out in the fields and pastures, one can’t forget:

1 (A Psalm of David.) The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Psalms 23:1-3

We all need that special place to stop and seek Him. Be it a literal prayer closet, one room in the house where we can be alone, a park bench or other quiet place in a park, but if one can get their mind in the right place it could be a parking lot, a seat on a bus, anywhere. Just as long as one can get their mind quiet enough to be able to focus on speaking to God and to try to focus on what He has for you.

Lord, I praise You and worship You for all You have done for me. I thank You for the peace I find in Your creation and for the opportunity to talk to You and listen for Your guidance for me. I pray in the name of Jesus that You continue the work You have started in me and help me better understand Your plans for me. I ask that You work in the hearts and minds of loved ones that they understand Your plan for them as well. Lead us all to that place besides the still waters that You have planned for us. Help us find the paths of righteousness and bring us to that path. I thank You for restoring my soul, giving me my salvation and the forgiveness. I thank You for the sacrifice of Your son Jesus on the cross for me. Please show us all the true way to the salvation You have waiting for us all.

Amen

Many thanks to those that make it here. Have a blessed day and try to be a blessing to someone else today.

Who Loves ya baby?

telly-savalas-who-loves-ya-baby

No, I don’t think he does, but with the catch line that was used on that show, I thought maybe it would be a “clever” start. Although, what I think is clever often leaves others (my daughters for some) shaking their heads or rolling their eyes at my dad jokes and attempts at humor. BUT, as at many other times, I digress.

I suspect that many, if not all of us have asked ourselves, Who loves me? When dating, does the boyfriend or girlfriend love me? When engaged, does the fiancé? When married, does our spouse? My children? My pets? My parents and grandparents?

And, the list could go on and on, depending on the amount and type of love to which one refers. But, does anyone ever truly love another unconditionally? How much will someone sacrifice out of love? Some will and have sacrificed everything while others may sacrifice time or money. But, just because one sacrifices money does that mean they love you? Because they buy gifts does that mean they really care? If you do buy gifts for another, do they love you only because of what you have given them and not because they love you? Does having sex with someone mean love? Are any or all of those things done out of devotion and love or are they done because one or both involved wants something and they will show love as long as they are given what they want, be that attention (physical or otherwise,) gifts, money, or any other possible “reward” for showing love, or a semblance of love.

All those questions are difficult to answer and I could come up with many more about how humans show love. But, how many times do humans pretend to show emotions. Sometimes those emotions are genuine, sometimes they are not. How can one tell? Well, I really don’t know the answer to that. I have been in circumstances where I thought someone loved me, but then realized later, no they did not really. Love requires sacrifice and humans, regardless of what they say or do otherwise, are inherently selfish and greedy and have personal motivation for almost everything they do. I am not saying that there are not some genuine people, but that even the most genuine has some sort of personal agenda. I am not criticizing human nature, just recognizing a fact. We do things for those we love, partially out of love, but also because we receive something in return. Whether that be joy in seeing a loved one happy or if it is because they give us something in return. But, the underlying truth is that human love always contains an element of self service. We show love to receive. And, there are many who show love but not true love because they receive something in return that is more beneficial and valuable to them than what they show. Buying gifts does not mean one person loves another. Not buying gifts doesn’t mean one doesn’t love another. I will be honest, trying to understand the human heart, including my own, is a confusing matter. The more one tries to understand, the more confusing it becomes.

As one tries to understand human love, particularly the one writing this, one begins to realize that yes, the scripture is correct about the human heart. But, I do know someone that loved me, loves me, and will always love me. Not because of what I do, but IN SPITE of what I do for I will, we all will, eventually do some sort of wrong. Not intentionally, but we do. We all fall short, we all slip, we all sin in one manner or another. But, despite any sins, failures or shortcomings. Someone loves me. He loves me so much that He sacrificed His only Son for me. God sent His Son to die for me. Christ loved me so much that He suffered pain and torture and was executed so I could be forgiven of my sins and have life eternal with God. I suppose one could argue that God loves us in order that we can worship Him, so He gives love to get love. If that is true, I still receive rewards for worshipping and praising and loving God. The joy and comfort He provides as part of His love is amazing. Regardless of why God loves us, He does and has done more for us out of love than we could even begin to repay.

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

John 3: 16-17

And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.  Deuteronomy 6:5

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.  Matthew 22:37

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.  John 15:13

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  Romans 5:8

The last two verses especially say a lot to me. I have seen soldiers die for their friends and brothers in arms. I have seen examples of one person dying while struggling to try to rescue another. Those are noble examples of love. But, the most loving, noble, gracious thing I know of is how Christ suffered and died for me. I am so unworthy of His love and sacrifice and the gift of life eternal with Him. But, He loves me so much that He did so.

No, a guy with a lollipop does not represent love to me. Saying the words does not prove anything. Money or gifts don’t either. Only truly giving of oneself proves love.

THIS represents love to me!

Lord, I praise You and thank You for all You have done for me. For Your unconditional love and the unimaginable sacrifice Your Son Jesus gave. I stand in awe of such great love for one as unworthy as I. I pray in Jesus’ Name that You work on me, work in my heart to help me become that which You desire of me, that I follow You as I should, that I be an example of Your love. Help me know the path You plan for me, Show me what You wish me to do and teach my how to see and feel towards others as Christ does. Please draw me and my loved ones, as well as others, to You so that we may enjoy the blessings You give and that we are able to stand in Your presence to worship and praise You.

Amen

Well, I hope that all have a blessed day. Thank you for your time and I do hope that all have a chance to be a blessing to others.

The Peace of God

Some days I start to pray a while and among other things, I ask God for guidance on topics for posts here and at times, He puts something on my heart that I should write about so I do, and they seem to be something I needed to think about. Other times, I feel like there is something and as I write, well, it doesn’t seem like I am writing things that really address what I thought He wanted me to think about. Then, I think, well, now about what can I write? And, I just start reading in the Bible. Today was a day like that and as I read a little here and there, I came upon this passage and it said a lot to me. Given current circumstances I have some worries that I am following His will for me. I am concerned that I what I think He wants may not be what He truly wants for me. SO, I pray on those things. Now, I really must say, I am not sure what my future holds but I know that no matter what happens, wherever He leads me, He will give me cause to rejoice and that as long as I do my part and seek Christ, He will lead my steps. That knowledge gives me peace. Knowing that what is true, is true and He will make things as He wishes them to be and give me further reason for praise!

4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.
5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Philippians 4:4-8

Lord, I praise You and thank You for all that You are, that in times of difficulty You are still worthy of praise, that when I seek You, You will give me Peace. I ask in Jesus Name that You have Your hand on me and guide my words and actions as I make decisions and help me during that time seek You first. That You give me the heart and mind of Christ so I keep my focus and follow You.

Amen

I appreciate all those who take time to read my posts. I hope He blesses You all richly and all in turn, bless others.

The Offer…ish. Praying to know His will.

Good morning all. Well, a little follow up about the job I have previously mentioned for those interested. I received a text yesterday asking me to give them a call and when I did I was informed that I should expect a formal offer by the end of the week. I was both elated and terrified when I was told. If the offer is right and I accept, it will be a dramatic change in my life. I am somewhat uncertain. I have given it all to God and asked that He lead my way. I don’t yet know what they will offer in regards to pay and benefits and have a figure in mind that if they offer that or more, will consider it a sign from Him.

While I have faith in God, that He will work things out, I also have concerns that I may be trying too hard and trying to put my wishes before His will. I will be spending a lot of time praying about this and ask that all pray for the situation that there be no doubt and that I know it is God working things out for His plans for me. I have too often tried to make things be the way I want and not how Christ would have me do in my life. I am struggling to NOT do so anymore.

31 But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.
32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

Luke 12:31-32

It is my wish to seek Him first, seek to follow Him and live so that it will glorify Christ.

5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Maybe He is trying to teach me more faith, more trust. I pray I have the discernment to know it is from Him and the faith to follow Christ as He guides me.

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. James 1:5

I am praying for wisdom that I know His will and that I have the faith to follow.

Lord, Praise You for all Your glory. I thank You for the blessings and my salvation. I praise Jesus for the sacrifice He made for me with His death on the cross. I pray in Jesus name that I know Your will and plans, that You give me the wisdom to understand and that I not put my way before Yours. That You give me the faith to follow Your wishes for me. I ask that You draw us all closer to You and that we all come to know Christ as our savior.

Amen

Thanks for the visit, your time and your prayers. I hope He blesses you all today and that each is able to be a blessing to others.
