On Retainer?

I was watching some show a while back and one of the characters was talking about wanting to sue someone and said “I have a lawyer on retainer and he will take my case.” Where someone pays a certain fee to have an attorney available when needed is not rare but I thought about how many people try to apply that to their lives. Sometimes trying to keep some people around, in case something happens and they need them for something but essentially ignoring the person otherwise. Reminds me of a coworker that complained about a friend of hers who, when she had a boyfriend, she would never contact my coworker, just nothing, and then, if she broke up with her boyfriend then suddenly, she wanted to hang out again. Texting and calling, trying to plan things, then poof, she got back with her boyfriend or got another one and never be heard from again until things got bad for some reason. If someone is a friend, they should always be a friend and not only when it suits one person.

And, as I pondered that issue, I started thinking how so many people that call themselves Christians do that same thing with God. They want Him available when they have a crisis, but otherwise ignore Him and His wishes for them. No thought of the Bible or the teachings of Christ, until disaster happens again.

I must admit, I have been that way myself, knowing God is real, knowing that Christ is His Son who died for my sins, knowing what I should do and should not do, but instead of doing as I should I do as I wish. Not being HORRIBLE, but still sinning somehow and not living as a Christian should and not obeying God. Waiting until I needed Him to pray or talk to Him. Not taking time to praise Him because of His mercies. Just, well keeping Him on retainer for when it suited me.

And, to be frank, it is wrong and was, in a manner of speaking, mocking God, essentially saying, “God, you hang out over there on the sidelines and I will call you when I need you.” As I see it, I ALWAYS need God. Maybe I am not in a position where I am in desperate need. Maybe I have no human needs at all. But I always have a spiritual need.

I was recently reading an article about people doing just like I did, called on God at extreme times and all but forgetting Him until the next hardship arose and then they would cry out to God, ask Jesus for forgiveness. And then, after the crisis passed they went right back to their old ways. Now, God doesn’t have a limit on forgiveness but the author of that article stated the result of repeated behavior like that is hardening of ones heart towards Christ.

The other issue is that Christ spoke about people being lukewarm and His feelings on that.

15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

Revelation 3:15-16

I ran the risk that He would spew me out. Now, this is from Revelation and talking about the end of time but we don’t know when that will happen. It could be today for all we mortals know. It may be another thousand years. It will happen though and I do not want to either die and face judgement or face judgement after the tribulation and be found to be lukewarm. I won’t relegate God and Christ to the sidelines to be used when it works for me. If I believe in Christ and what He did for me; if I believe in salvation; if I believe in the Bible; then I need to always believe and practice what is taught. I need to listen for His voice and guidance. I need to not keep God on a retainer but rather worship and praise Him daily. I need to live for Him and His glory.

Lord, I praise Your Holy Name and I thank You for my salvation, bought with the suffering and blood of Jesus, your Son, who died and was resurrected to defeat death and sin. I pray in Jesus Name that I remember that You are not on a retainer for use by me as needed. That I need to remember all You did for me and praise You for those things daily. In times of joy and times of sorrow, in times of richness and times of poverty for You are worthy of praise and my service to you at all times, not only when I have need. I pray that You remind others and myself of that and help us all see and hear the truths You try to show us and to hear Your guidance for our lives. I ask that You draw me and loved ones nearer to You.

Amen

thanks for your time today. I hope all have a blessed day and are able to be a blessing to others as well.

You can’t make someone do right for themselves.

Well. First off, as I was spending more time studying the Bible and in prayer I had things I was thinking about, working on understanding about the scripture, how God wants me to implement what I am learning, trying to see and understand what God wants of me and working to get closer to Christ in the process I came to realize somethings about me, one of which is I can process things better when I write; so, I shall write more. I don’t think I will write and post as often, but it is helpful to me and hopefully, as I had said long ago, something will hopefully be beneficial for someone else. And, with that being said…..

After Bible study last night I was speaking with the pastor and he mentioned someone that was sick so I asked if they had gone to the doctor yet and he said no. I commented that it seems they have been dealing with this issue for a while and asked if he had suggested they go to the doctor and he replied, “Yes, several times but even though we and they know they should go, you can’t make someone do the right thing for themselves.” And, I thought that while it was a simple statement and concept it was pretty darned profound.

As I thought about that, I considered times I have been he who would not help myself, whether that be getting help when I needed it, perhaps physical by not going to the doctor when I should have (yes, I am a doctor myself, but sometimes we aren’t good patients,) actual assistance with some sort of work I was doing, counseling when I was dealing with PTSD issues, or many other ways I could have benefited from getting help, one area I was bad about in past was seeking spiritual assistance when I needed it, maybe I didn’t talk to a pastor or fellow Christian that could have helped me some or maybe I didn’t study the Bible or pray about things. Thinking about ways I didn’t do it, I thought about people that sort of get help, but not really. Sometimes people come to the doctor, they need medications, the get the prescriptions and either don’t get them filled, only take it when they feel like it, take it incorrectly or don’t follow other suggestions like losing weight, stopping smoking or drinking or other medical advise. I also thought about a friend of mine who is a psychiatrist and he often would get frustrated with patients that had been listening to him, making fantastic progress and on the verge of a breakthrough when suddenly they relapse. They either quit talking about the true issue or they quit therapy. So close that he knew they were literally minutes away from getting to the point that they could actually start getting better.

I thought further about things, about times that I have seen people on the verge of doing exactly what they needed to do and just quit, give up on trying to make take the steps they need to take in order to reach that point they need to reach, almost there, but they stop short. That would be like an athlete in a marathon who is almost at the finish line and will finish and do well, but for some unknown reason just stop because they just can’t make it a little further. They were almost to break the tape and they give up and let someone else win.

How many, one way or another fall short of what God wants for them? We all fall short, but through Christ we are redeemed. I am not talking about the unsaved, but about Christians. How many fail to listen to God because they let other things interfere with their thoughts, prevent them from hearing or listening to God. Or, if they hear Him, they ignore Him. I will tell you the truth, I have been guilty of all of the above. And when I was, it was because I wouldn’t help myself by listening to Christ.

Of course, one reason to listen is to receive salvation. If we hear Christ’s call us and respond by asking forgiveness and confessing our sins and that He I the Son of God who died and was resurrected to defeat death, we can be saved.

14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.
16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

John 10:14-18

and, not listening keeps us from God.

He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear [them] not, because ye are not of God. John 8:47

Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let [them] slip.  Hebrews 2:1

15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.
16 For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.

Hebrews 3:15-16

For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard [it].  Hebrews 4:2

But, what about not listening to God and missing out on the real blessings He has for us. I know I have been very bad about that.

Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end. Proverbs 19:20

So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17

5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.
7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Proverbs 1:5-7

He promises blessings to those who listen to Him.

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.  John 16:13

But he said, Yea rather, blessed [are] they that hear the word of God, and keep it. Luke 11:28

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Romans 8:14

For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received [it] not [as] the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.         1 Thessalonians 2:13

And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.  Luke 8:21

And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.  Mark 4:24

1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe [and] to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.

Deuteronomy 28:1-2

He tells us that He will bless us, make us His children if we listen, that He will lift us high above others because of our faith, that we listen to Him and obey Him. I know that in the past I have been given word from God. Through prayer, studying the scripture and at times He has used others to tell me. I have not always obeyed when I heard things. Because I did not listen or obey, at times I missed out on blessings, other times I heard but did not obey, until like Jonah, He gave me no real choice but to obey and when I did, He blessed me. Making me realize that my resistance to His voice delayed my blessings and thereby diminished them. No, we can’t make people do the right thing for themselves, we cannot make one listen and obey God. What we can do is listen to Him, obey His word and help ourselves. We can pray for those who need prayer, but one that I know who always needs prayer is me. That I know when to help myself by hearing, listening and obeying God.

Lord, I praise Your Holy Name and thank You for the blessings You have been gracious enough to give to me, even though I didn’t deserve them. I thank You for my salvation paid for by the blood of Jesus who died for me and was resurrect to defeat death on my behalf. I pray in the Name of Jesus that You work in me and help be better hear You when You speak to me, to know when I am given a message from You and to know to follow Your will for my life that I may receiving further blessings and more importantly learn to walk better with Christ. I pray that any who, like I have in the past, failed to listen, hear and obey You that they not harden their hearts to Your word and lose out on the blessings You have in store for them if they follow Your will. I pray that You draw my children and other loved ones closer to You that we may all rejoice together in Heaven in the future.

Amen.

Thank you all who make time to read the lessons God gives me. I hope someone else was blessed as well. Have a marvelous and blessed day and try to be a blessing to someone else.

The Storms

dust-storm-010.jpg

I was driving today and one of the disc jockeys was talking about a conversation that she was having with some friends and one they knew had a lot of less than pleasant things going on in her life. They asked her about it and she gave them updates on things. Then, one of the women said something that is true, storms come before the seasons change. That the storms just have to be weathered and then better things are on the way. It made me think about in Iraq, how you could see a HUGE cloud of dust in the fall. We asked the locals that we were working with what was going on and they said that in 3 days, maybe 4 days, the dust storm would be there and last a couple weeks, but then they got excited and said that when it was gone, the rains would come. Seeing as it is the desert, water is important and the wells and cisterns would be filled.

They were excited to see the sand storm coming, not because they enjoyed it, as it was miserable. One could see only 20 feet or so and the wind was pretty intense, with the dust and sand blowing it stung! My experience was that the dust found its way into even the tiniest crack and everything was coated with dust. I had to start covering my cot and everything I did not want dust covered with plastic and some still got through. But, as miserable as the dust storm was, it was followed by the rains. The rain there was more of a drizzle, but it was nonstop for 2 months, then it got cold, for there at least but the wells and cisterns were filled, the crops could be irrigated when planting season came and they were all happy.

23 And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.
24 And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.
25 And his disciples came to [him], and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.
26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
27 But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!

Matthew 8:23-27

For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones [is] as a storm [against] the wall.

Isaiah 25:4

So, the advise that storms mean changes for the better are coming, one must be prepared to weather the storms and see them through. But, the glorious thing is that we need not weather the storms alone. I have had stormy times in my life. Sometimes I tried to get through them on my own and it was not good. A year or so ago I had some of the most horrendous storms I could have ever imagined and I was feeling a lot of despair, hopelessness and lost. However, in those storms I reached for the shelter of God and sought Jesus to help me through the storm and He did exactly as He promises, He carried me through those times, He gave me comfort and more than that, He gave me forgiveness of my sins. What an amazing God we serve.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.    1 John 1:9

He rescued me in my storm; He calmed the seas; He forgave me my sins and I was changed. I cannot begin to express the depth of thankfulness I have for all the grace and mercy He shows me. None of which I deserve, but He gives them to me anyway.

My Heavenly Father,   I praise You and thank You for not only helping me make it through the storms, but giving me a change in seasons, a change in me thanks to You as I did nothing to earn it or be worthy of what You did for me and I can’t thank You enough for the mercy and grace that allowed me to be forgiven and redeemed. In the name of Jesus I ask that You work in the hearts of loved ones that they may see Your glory and come to know you as their savior as well. I ask that You help us all see that in spite of the storms a new season awaits us and that leaning on You for protection and comfort in those troubling times will not only get us through those times, but make us better for having called out to You in those times.

Amen

I appreciate the time that you all take to ready my blog. I hope you all are blessed today and have a chance to bless someone else as well.

Challenges

I have had some challenging times and life being what it is I expect more challenges. In life, there are always challenges. One cannot escape the probability of challenges, we all have and will face any number of challenges and difficulties. Those challenges may be due to financial problems, job changes, marital, loss of family members due to death, health difficulties, difficulties with home repairs, automobile repairs, temptations, problems with completing school work or hard tests to take. There is always some sort of difficulty around the corner waiting for us. Some, so overwhelming that one cannot see how they could get past them, how they will be able to afford the cost, whether financial, emotional or physical. Facing challenges has costs that cannot be avoided. If facing a huge bill that they don’t have the money to pay. They see a pending loss of a loved one that they do not see any way they will be able to cope without that person in their life. I remember watching my parents as they slipped away from me. Praise the Lord, they are with Him now, but I faced those losses with such an emptiness that I could never have imagined being possible. There are some challenges that are smaller, less difficult to face and others so overwhelming that a way to overcome them is beyond the grasp of ones mind.

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God [is] faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear [it].                   1 Corinthians 10:13

After facing all manner of challenges in my life, before and after my salvation, but since my salvation I find that even the difficult challenges are easier, the hard times less so. Praying to help me see how He would have me react in those times, to see what path He wants me to take and of course, letting Christ carry my burdens for me.

28 Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.  Matthew 11:28-29

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.  Philippians 4:6

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.  Philippians 4:13

So. As I face new challenges in life, because life is full of challenges some worse than others, sometimes more frequent but I will face more challenges. I have His strength to help me be strong. I have Christ to bear my burdens. I have a Lord that loves and protects me in difficult times.

But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle [you].  1 Peter 5:10

I will lean on Him in the challenges; seek His counsel when confused; ask or His comfort when dealing with troubling situations.

Lord, Praise You in all Your Glory. I thank You for the comfort You give in troubled times, for the strength to stay the course when I am facing struggles to continue on the course You have laid before me. I know that I will never be at a point that challenges do not come my way but I thank You for being there to help me through those times. I ask in the name of Jesus that others facing challenges, facing big decisions or difficult times, currently or in the future, be given the grace You have shown me and that You speak to their hearts and minds that they know that You are with them and give them guidance and understanding of their individual paths so they know what they need to do. Show them Your will in their lives and give them the peace when You speak to them so that they have the comfort only You can give. Thank You Lord for my salvation through the sacrifice of Your Son Christ.

Amen

Well, its cold in the Midwest and hopefully will warm up soon. I hope all have a blessed day and are able to be a blessing to someone else.

Knock. Knock. WHO’s there?

knock

I promise, no lame knock knock joke. During a conversation with a friend while discussing one door closing, finding other doors locked, uncertainty about even trying further doors as they didn’t feel any strong leading by the Lord in one or another particular direction. So, planning to wait for Him to unlock a door. I tend to be one that wants to be involved in things and I believe that Christ wants us to be active participants in our lives. He wants us to lean on Him but He also wants us to put some effort into things. He may unlock doors but He wants us to turn the knob and open the door to let Him into our lives or to give God the chance to do something for us.

20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.  Revelation 3:20-22

He does stand at the door and knock, waiting for us to open the door let Him in. He won’t barge in the door but He will wait and knock again. He will make things ready for us but won’t force us to accept Him and His blessings. He will prepare a way for us but not force us to take that path but hopes that we will and even when we don’t He will still have that path waiting for us so that we can be forgiven and receive the grace and mercy He provides.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.  Jeremiah 29:11

He has thoughts and plans for us and wants us to reach the expected end. He wants us to receive the blessings He has to give us but we to do our part. He has all ready and waiting if we have the faith to reach out and take it.

And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

Luke 12:47

So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  Hebrews 11:1

If we hear Him and don’t open the door, if we know what He tells us and don’t obey and prepare ourselves to do His will, we deny ourselves the blessings He has for us. If we have the faith to obey when He speaks to us, the faith to open those doors, the courage to exercise that faith, we will be blessed.

So, if He is knocking on your door to offer you salvation; if He is there waiting for you to open the door to give you the blessing for which you have been praying; open the door, take that step of faith and receive the salvation and blessings He has prepared for us all.

Lord, I praise You and thank You that You will stand at the door and knock, that You will unlock those locked doors and prepare a way for me. I ask in Jesus name that You help me have the faith and trust in You so that I open those doors You have unlocked and step forward in faith that I may have all that You have prepared for me. I ask that You draw me closer, that You reach out to loved ones that they hear You when You knock and that all others that hear You knocking but are fearful for some reason have the faith and courage to listen to You and follow You. So all can know the redemption and forgiveness You have waiting for them.

Amen

Thanks again for your visit. I hope all are blessed today and are able to be a blessing to at least one other as well.

Is that what you want to be doing when Jesus comes?

I have heard this said in a variety of different ways since I was a child. Maybe phrased as: Would you want to meet Jesus doing that? How would you feel if Jesus saw you doing that? If Jesus came now would you be proud of how you are living? Or, any number of similar phrases uttered by my mother, grandmother and others. There was a time I would have not been proud of my life, of my actions and I would have been ashamed if Jesus had seen me that way. I am better now but sometimes, I slip a little, I get annoyed and irritated, I don’t always have as gentle of a heart and am not as quick to turn the other cheek as He wants, but I am working on that with His help. I want to be ready when He returns.

34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and [so] that day come upon you unawares.
35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.
36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.         Luke 21:34-36

I posted about signs of His coming. I didn’t list all the signs but there are a lot of them in the scripture. While there are signs that the time is coming we don’t know exactly when He will come.  I always think about when there is talk of the end of the world, predictions made by people who interpret various hieroglyphs, the Mayan calendar and other ancient writings and then give specific dates for whatever apocalypse they say will cause the end of the world then suddenly, the date comes and no end of the world. Those are the ones that remind me that we will not know the time He is coming until He arrives. So we must always be ready for His return.

But of that day and hour knoweth no [man], no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.  Matthew 24:36

42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

Matthew 24:42-44

But of that day and [that] hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.  Mark 13:32

No, we don’t know when He is coming, but when He comes what a glorious time for those who believe in Him and are saved. I fear for the unsaved but praise Him for those who will not be on Earth for the tribulations that will follow.

15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.                    1 Thessalonians 4:15-17

Lord,  Praise You and Your Holy Name. I thank You for my salvation. What a magnificent gift that is that You gave me. God, I both look forward to, and fear, the day that Christ returns. I look forward to rejoicing in Heaven with Jesus and worshipping at Your throne. But, I fear for those who continue in sin and who are not redeemed. I pray in the name of Jesus that You use me to help show others Your love and mercy that they may know the forgiveness and grace that await them if they confess Christ as Your son and ask for forgiveness of their sins. I pray that You help all know You and that You draw all my loved ones to You that they not be left behind when Christ returns.

Amen

Well, I hope something I said blesses someone, I would encourage all to take time and read about the signs of His return and what will occur when He does come. If you are not where you think you should be when He returns, then talk to God and get to where you feel Him lead you. Have a blessed day and try to be a blessing to someone else.

Is not obeying as bad as sinning?

Sometimes, I get questions that I sorta think I know the answer to but wonder exactly how right my opinion is on the subject. Some of the questions that pop into my head don’t have a good answer. Such as, why is it a fine one pays for getting a speeding ticket? It aint fine, it is awful, why not call the payment an awful? Besides silly thoughts and questions I do sometimes have profound thoughts and questions, much to the surprise of a lot of people. But, thinking on times God has put a burden on me to do something; talk to someone about Christ; do something for someone, help them somehow, or other things He has made me feel lead to do. Sometimes I do them but other times, despite knowing that He was speaking to my heart and knowing that I should do something because He wants me to do it, I don’t and later I feel guilty and convicted for not doing so. At times, not listening to Him results in me getting into, or staying in, an unpleasant situation. Sometimes I get myself into spots, I may not have sinned, but something in me told me it was not what I should do (yeah, it was God telling me) and I didn’t listen to His still small voice, so I blunder on my own and even though He doesn’t stop me, He does not reward me either and allows me to deal with the consequences of not obeying.

Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth [it] not, to him it is sin.    James 4:17

AND….that is the question of the day. Is not obeying as bad as sinning? Is knowing what He wants and not doing so as bad as committing a sin. Well, intuitively I want to say, yes, not obeying is sinning. I can be doing nothing wrong, I may not be disobeying God’s will, I may not be doing contrary to Christ’s teachings, but then again if I am not obeying God then, well, sadly I am sinning. Like when I was a child and my parents told me to do something, clean my room perhaps, and I played dumb later when it wasn’t done and even though I didn’t misbehave, not obeying them was disobeying and that is misbehaving. The same applies to with what God tells us. If we pretend not to hear, or due to pride, fear, thinking we are too busy, or some other excuse/reason we fail to obey, we sinned.

But he said, Yea rather, blessed [are] they that hear the word of God, and keep it.   Luke 11:28

Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.    Romans 13:1

Well, so far, yup, He is telling me I am supposed to do as I feel He leads me and that not doing so is wrong in His sight.

And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?  Luke 6:46

And, there it is, He tells us to obey Him and that if we know what is good but fail to do it, that is a sin. Seems to me I need to be better about obeying. I have been working hard on not sinning other ways but still through whatever stubbornness, insecurity, fear, pride, or what ever excuse I try to make up as an excuse to not obey when He speaks to me, I am not obeying and therefore I am sinning. If you hear or feel God speaking to you, do as He leads you. Such a simple concept, but sometimes, the simple things are not so easy.

Lord, I thank You for the forgiveness and mercy You give me. I pray in the name of Jesus that You help me better hear and listen to Your voice and that I get better about obeying what I know is Your will for me. And that when I hear that I follow without trying to find excuses not to obey. I thank You for teaching all the things You have taught me and ask that You help me hold all the lessons to heart and incorporate those into my life. I ask that You continue to work with me to make me a better Christian. I ask that You draw all my loved ones closer to You that we all know You and the salvation You give us that was paid for by the sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus who died for my sins. I pray You help me be a better example for Christ.

Amen

Thank you all for your time. I hope all are blessed today and have a chance to be a blessing to someone else as well.

I want to see!!!

looking

It’s a mild winter day here today which is quite welcome after the sub-zero temperatures a few days ago, but as they say here, “If you don’t like the weather just wait, it will change in a day or two.” That ends up being quite true often, in the last 3 days there has been a close to 70 degree difference. But, I digress and now, back on topic: with the milder weather I was out on the porch looking to see if there was any wildlife in the fields: deer, turkey or most anything really. I was thinking that I would like to see some deer or turkey out there. I enjoy seeing them play in the fields.

I want to see. I want to see the weather get better; I want to see the wildlife. BUT, more than those things, I want to see the blessings He has in store for me. I want to see what it is like to be in the presence of Christ. I want to see and experience more of the fruits of the Spirit. I want to see more of the perfect love He has in store for us all. I have seen some of the blessings and what He has for me. I have felt what it is like to be in His presence but I guess I am greedy, because I want to see again.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Galatians 5:22-23

In order to see and experience those things, and all the other blessings Christ has in store for me I have to seek Him.

7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Matthew 7:7-8

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.   Matthew 6:33

I need to seek God first, and, then He will show me the path for me. He will bless me as He has planned to bless me. He will show me the gifts He wishes me to have and experience all He has in store for me.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.        James 1:17

I will seek Him, but I need to seek God for Him and His righteousness, I need to seek His kingdom. For that, I will be rewarded with blessings I cannot fathom. He will show me all I ask and more. I just need to remember that sometimes, patience is necessary. Waiting for Him to do what He plans for me if I prove myself faithful. What an amazing God we serve.

But if we hope for that we see not, [then] do we with patience wait for [it].     Romans 8:25

My Lord, I praise You. Thank You for the blessings I have received, Thank You for the blessings to come. I pray in the name of Jesus that I learn the patience and faith to wait on You and that You continue to help me seek You and to know the heart of Christ. Help me strive to serve You first. I ask You to draw us all closer to You that we may know the blessings of Your forgiveness and mercy. I thank You for the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross and for His defeat over death that made our redemption possible. I pray for those that are suffering, whether financially, physically, emotionally or in any other way and who are yearning to see the blessings You have in store for each of us.

Amen

I hope all have a blessed day and that you are a blessing to someone else as well.

Foul Weather Christian?

boat

I was talking with someone a while back and they were concerned about a person falling away from Christ and drifting back into their old ways. They were concerned and described how every time things in the person’s life got difficult, when the person faced hardships, they turned to God and would go to church, quote scripture and appeared to be living a Christian life. Then, when things got better, they would start missing church here and there, then more and more, they stopped quoting scripture and would start doing things they did before. How this had happened over and over and was there anything they could do to help the person.

Well, all I could suggest was to pray for them but that does happen a lot. I know that often times, people will turn to God when they are desperate, suffering some how and feeling hopeless due to whatever caused them to be in that place in their lives and when life is better, forget God and resort to old ways and return to the sin that had put them into hardship in the beginning. The possible causes are near endless and would take forever to list but that part doesn’t matter, what matters is that the person forgets God until they need Him again.

God WILL help us when we are in need. He has done so for many people. He did so for me.

I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.        Psalms 34:4

I have seen Him deliver people from some terrible situations and they never return to their old ways. I know people that were drug addicts and alcoholics and Christ changed them in an instant and they have never used drugs or alcohol again. But, I know others in similar circumstances that were clean and sober for a period of time, some a few days only, some for a few weeks or a few months but they always succumbed to the desire for using whatever their substance of choice was and quickly were back where they started. They would continue like that for a while, a few months, a couple years, several years, but eventually their choice began to cause them problems and back to God again…..and the cycle would repeat itself.

26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

Hebrews 10:26-27

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.  Galations 6:7

Repenting, then returning to sin is mocking God. I have heard some that have done so say something to the effect of “it’s okay if I sin, I will ask God to forgive me again.” And, they do this repeatedly. God doesn’t want us to repent, then intentionally sin with that kind of attitude.

Foul weather Christians, those who only seek Him when they are in need, but forget Him when their problems go away deceive themselves and eventually will find that God does not honor the person’s pleas for salvation. He sees their heart, and the way some repeatedly behave with their willful sinning is an affront to Him.

For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.  Hebrews 4:12

He knows when we mock Him by thinking we can repeatedly sin and ask for salvation, over and over. I am not saying Christians will never sin, we will, most Christians try to NOT sin, but we all fail, and that is what forgiveness is for and not for those who sin willfully and then seek salvation, with the thought that they will sin again and seek salvation again then. But, as I read in one article, the sin and repeatedly requesting salvation for the same sin, after repeatedly turning one’s back on Christ is that the person’s heart becomes hardened and that being truly repentant becomes nearly, if not completely, impossible for that person.

Lord, I worship Your Holy Name and thank You for the salvation that You give us all, the salvation and redemption paid for by Christ when His blood was shed for our sins. I pray in the name of Jesus that You help me to resist temptation so I do not fall back into sin. Help me to avoid repeatedly sinning, then seeking forgiveness, then repeating that cycle and by helping me avoid that, You will help me avoid hardening my heart. I pray that You keep my thoughts on Christ and keep me seeking to know His heart and to live in a manner that is pleasing to You. Please draw us all closer to You so we know Your truth and seek to live for You and follow the path You wish for us.

Amen

Thanks to all for your visit today. I hope all have a blessed day, and as always, that you are able to be a blessing to someone else as well.

Building up or tearing down?

tearing

I was working on a project where I had to rebuild a part of a wall and well, as I was working I thought about how sometimes we have to tear down to build something back, but if we do it right, one ends with something better than when we started. I thought about how God does that with us when He needs to do it in order to get us to the place He wants us to be for Him. He sure did that with me, through a series of events over a long time period I was torn down, not completely but definitely to the point I didn’t feel I could build myself back up and was forced to turn to Him.

Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up. Hosea 6:1

He also just builds us up if we are in the right place with Christ. Besides God building us up, we are supposed to build up one another; help one another to grow in Jesus and life in general.

Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.  1 Thessalonians 5:11

Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.  Romans 14:19

God also instructs us not to tear each other down. He tears down the barriers that need broken down and builds us up according to His plan. We should not undermine other Christians, family, friends, colleagues or anyone else. I guess its like my dad used to say, if you don’t have something good to say, don’t say anything.

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.  Ephesians 4:29

Too often I see or hear about people doing all they can to tear others down. I wish it wasn’t so, but I have done that as well. But, thank God, He has helped me with that (among a lot of other things.) People do this for a variety of reasons, but it seems a lot of the time it is done to others, not because the person needs broken down, whether that be spiritually or emotionally, but because the person doing the breaking feels powerful and like they are made better by tearing down another. I pray for those being attacked and for the attacker, the attacked needs strength to face the attacks and the attacker needs to know God.

Lord, I praise You and thank You for tearing me down to build me back up and to make me a new creature. I pray in the name of Jesus that I only build up others and help them to be better persons and better Christians. I pray for those who are being belittled, shamed, mistreated whether it be physically or emotionally or are being attacked and torn down: spiritually, emotionally, physically or in any other way. I pray that You will help strengthen them and show them Your love and mercy, teach them that they are more than the attacker wants them to think they are and to give them the courage to do what they need to do to be away from such circumstances. Bring to those people the help they need to do what is right for themselves and for You. Work in the hearts of the attackers that they stop their ways.

Amen

I hope everyone is having a good day and that you are blessed somehow today. Please, be a blessing to others as well.
