I was driving down the highway today and passed a weight station. Truckers a lot of times are hauling heavier loads than they are supposed to haul, based on size of vehicle, trailer, license, etc. So they try to dodge scales, find ways to avoid having to go through the scales and found to be overweight which would mean a ticket and depending on circumstances, they may not be permitted to leave until another truck is sent to take some of the load from them so they meet the requirements. Years ago, I worked for a guy that had trucks that we used to haul the equipment and materials to do the work. They were bigger than pick ups and heavy enough that if a weight station was present, we were supposed to stop and get weighed, maybe a safety inspection completed as they did those occasionally if something seemed to possibly be wrong. Lights not working properly, turn signals, stop lights, etc.  Well, he had a habit of not worrying about little things like turn signals. Oh, the trucks were mechanically sound, road worthy and safe to operate otherwise, but not always 100% legal. So, he would have us drive around the scales, which usually meant anywhere from 2 or 3 miles extra, to 20 or more. Depending on what other roads were in the area. Since this is not an uncommon occurrence, the law enforcement agencies have in most areas, also established portable scales that can pull a truck over if they have concerns about the weight. Or, sometimes they would essentially set up a road block to stop all the trucks and do the inspections and weights. Well, wouldn’t you know, we got stopped and out of the 3 trucks that were on the way to the job site, THREE had violations, tickets written and all. The boss started out crying foul, that they were not legal, but nope, that did not work, then he tried to talk the guys out of the tickets. That didn’t work either. Next, he wanted to make the people driving those trucks pay the tickets. I am not sure what laws are involved in all states, but where we were, the owner is responsible for vehicle problems while the driver is responsible for their operation of the vehicle. If a light is out, the owner pays but if the driver is speeding or runs a stop light, the driver pays.

Well, seeing the weight station, thinking on the way some people try to avoid inspections, avoid the scrutiny due to known violations made me think how many people try avoid scrutiny of their behavior. Now, their behavior may be horrendous, or maybe just a little bad, how bad doesn’t matter. People don’t like negative attention even from themselves. In the past, if discussing scripture and something hit too close to home, something I was doing wrong, I wanted to avoid discussing that particular thing. A lot of times the person I was talking with did not know what I may have been doing, but something said made me feel guilty. If the person was aware, then  sometimes I made excuses for whatever actions or I tried to change the subject. If they had no idea about things, then I would try to be more subtle changing the topic. But, regardless of what they knew or didn’t know, I knew I was in violation of God’s will and felt guilty because of that. I was trying to dodge the scales by avoiding discussion about my shortcomings. I am not the only one, most people, if they feel guilty about something, unless they are trying to make themselves better, will try to avoid scrutiny from God, others and themselves. BUT, God’s scales are ever present. God knows when we have defects in our behavior, if we are outside allowed weight limits so to speak, whatever our violation of His way, He knows. At this point one can either confess, ask Christ for forgiveness, and move forward, or keep trying to avoid the scales.

I tried to avoid for a long time. But, thankfully, I got to the point I stopped trying to avoid what I should have done, confessed to Christ, asked for and received His forgiveness and my salvation. Then, things got so much better. No life is not perfect, but the imperfections are far easier with Jesus. I am following Him and His instruction. My spiritual truck is no longer overweight, the lights all work. Thanks to God. I’m human, so fallible, but I try not to do that, and when I do, Jesus shows me my errors, forgive me and helps me improve.

20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

Romans 3:20-26

I wish I had never sinned, but that is not the truth, I have, sometimes, without real concern, knowing I was sinning, and still did so. We have all sinned, and can be forgiven through Christ. We can all get the salvation thanks to His sacrifice for us. All we need do is ask. He is not only ready and able to do so, but He wants us to be forgiven and saved.

1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 14:1-6

Yes, Christ is there, waiting for us, getting things ready. He will weigh us, inspect us and if we have confessed to Him, asked for forgiveness, He will do so and give us our salvation. He will make sure our spiritual trucks are not overweight and that all the lights work and that we pass that inspection.

Lord, I thank You for Your sacrifice and forgiveness, I praise You for all You are for us. I pray that You continue Your work in me. I know there is so much more to do but I know there has been much accomplished as well. I ask You to work on my heart to make it more like the heart of Christ. Give me the words to glorify You and help bless others. Help me keep my actions and thoughts as You would have them be towards You. Help me learn to seek You better. Work in the hearts and minds of others, draw them closer to You if they know You and if not, put a burden in their hearts to bring them to the salvation that You want us all to have through Jesus. Show me Your will, way and plan for my life. Show us all how to better serve Christ.

Thanks so much for coming by today. I appreciate the readers. Hopefully, something here helps someone see that He is waiting, ready to inspect, but also to make sure we pass the inspection. Have a blessed day, and be a blessing to others.
