I watched a movie a while back, and today at drill something came up that reminded me of a scene in the movie. In the movie, Tom Hanks was one actor, set in prohibition time, he played a gangster, but the character and his son had started robbing banks. The dad would rob the bank and the boy would drive the get away car. Well, after doing this a while and having gotten a huge amount of money, the boy said something about robbing all the banks and he had not gotten anything for it, so he asked if he could have some of it for driving and all. Well, the dad says, “Ok, how much do you want?” and the boy asked for, I believe $50. The dad says, OK, then, after a few seconds the boy asked, “Wait, could I have had more?” The dad says, “Maybe, You’ll never know.”

Well, for some reason that made me remember 25 or 30 years ago I needed a new vehicle, or at least newer as mine was just taking too much time to keep it going. I needed a pick up truck and wanted a 4 wheel drive as I do a lot in the fields and such. I looked for a while, came across one, it was 2 wheel drive, 6 cylinder, 3 speed. Not what I wanted, but the price was pretty decent so I thought awhile, talked with my dad some and he said, “Get it if you want, but if it’s not what you want, are you going to be satisfied?” I said, “maybe not, but with what I have to spend I don’t know if I will find what I want so maybe I will settle on this one.” I settled for it, even though I knew exactly what I wanted and this wasn’t it. But, it was a more convenient option than waiting longer. A couple weeks later guess what, Yeah, you got it. I found one for just a little bit more than what I paid for the one I had already bought that was exactly what I wanted. I got a blessing, a newer vehicle, a pick up, but a lesser version of what I wanted. I got a half blessing. I drove that truck for a few years, and every time I was driving it, I was somewhat annoyed at myself for not being willing to wait just a little longer.

I had a similar situation with a job, I was wanting a different job, had recently gotten my license as an Emergency Medical Technician and was anxious to get to work. I applied several places and I was waiting to hear back from most of them, some required experience so I needed to work somewhere to be considered, then, I had a job offered, a very small, rural ambulance service. I took the job, and in a week I had offers from 2 other places, but I had obligated myself to an extent and would not have felt right leaving so quickly. The other places were busier, meaning more experience and they paid better. But, there I was, I was too anxious for a job that I did not take time to fully consider or give the other places time to review my applications. I again, settled for a partial blessing.

In these cases, people (I mean me) settled for less than they could have had, both times, in the movie and in my life, they got a half blessing, because of being short sighted. Of course, a lot of times we don’t even realize we are getting a half a blessing because we are enjoying the one we have, to an extent and other times, we know the whole time we could have had a much larger blessing. People settle for less than the full thing for a variety of reasons, they are in a hurry and are too anxious probably more than anything. Maybe sometimes desperation is a factor, dealing with a difficult circumstance, like me and my older car, and in need of something. But, God doesn’t make us bear more than we are able and sometimes bearing a hardship just a little longer can be a much bigger blessing in the future. I learned from my experience and have been more patient, well, at least when it comes to vehicles and jobs. I still have to work on my patience in a lot of ways on other things though.

Time for me to look to the scripture and see what God says about the fullness of His blessings.

And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God. Deuteronomy 28:2

Salvation belongeth unto the LORD: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah. Psalms 3:8

He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.          Psalms 24:5

Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. Luke 6:38

This isn’t even the tip of the iceberg, there is a WHOLE LOT of blessing to be found in the Bible, but, I want a FULL blessing, I want it pressed down, shaken together and running over I will no longer accept a partial blessing when so much more is available from God.

Jesus, I thank You for all the blessings You give me, all the mercy You show.  My salvation that You paid for with Your life. I pray that you help me be patient that I may enjoy the full blessings You have for me and that I not be to anxious and accept less than You have for me. I ask you continue to work in my heart to draw me closer and help me grow in Christ. I pray for loved ones that You work in their hearts and minds, draw them to you, give them the desire to follow You and serve You, and to have Your will in their lives as well. Give us all the blessings You wish for us.

Amen

Thanks again for coming by my page. I hope there is something I said that is helpful to at least one other. And, please, do what you can to be a blessing to someone and you will be blessed in return.
